Summer Mountain Safety

Granite Gorge’s summer operations are built for fun, flow, and progression, but safety remains essential. These guidelines apply to mountain biking, scenic skyrides, and summer events on the mountain.

Mountain Biker’s Responsibility Code

Mountain biking involves risk of serious injury or death. Your knowledge, decisions and actions contribute to your safety and that of others.

Always:

Stay in 
Control

You’re responsible for avoiding objects and people.

Know Your
Limits

Ride within your ability. Start small and work your way up.

Protect
Yourself

Use an appropriate bike, helmet and protective equipment.

Inspect and
Maintain your
Equipment

Know your components and their operation prior to riding.

Be Lift
Smart

Know how to load, ride and unload lifts safely. Ask if you need help.

Inspect the 
Trails and
Features

Conditions change constantly; plan and adjust your riding accordingly.

Obey Sings
and Warnings

Stay on marked trails only. Keep off closed trails and features. Ride in the direction indicated.

Be Visible


Do not stop where you obstruct a trail, feature, landing or are not visible.

Look and Yield
To Others

Know and Follow the Code. It is Your Responsibility.

Cooperate

If involved in or witness to an incident, identify yourself to staff.

Bike Park Safety & Trails

Grow skills, confidence, and stoke.

Freeride Trails

Characteristics: Wider trails featuring man-made obstacles like jumps, berms, banks, and wooden bridges


Design: Primarily built for downhill riding using dirt and wood.



Identification: Distinguished by an orange oval surrounding the difficulty symbol (circle, square, or diamond).

Technical Trails

Characteristics: Narrower trails that utilize natural terrain, such as rocks, roots, logs, and water crossings.



Design: Built to look natural; may be bi-directional.

Identification: Identified by a standard difficulty symbol (circle, square, or diamond) without an orange oval.

Scenic Skyrides

Remain seated at all times
Follow staff instructions when loading and unloading
Children must be accompanied as directed
Loose items should be secured

Weather & Trail Conditions

Trails may be slick, muddy, or closed after rain

Grooming and open terrain may vary throughout the day.

Always check current conditions before heading out.
